18/05 cls gathering
Sunday, July 27, 2008

i realised i havent been blogging much lately.
so what have i been up to?
shopping, shopping and more shopping for go-to-school clothes of course! =X
anyway, i went to 18/05's class gathering yesterday at the mushroom pot in OG(beside centrepoint). food was........ okay actually, except that i don't very much fancy mushrooms =X
every set had some mushroom dish in it! so maybe mushroom lovers mights like that place!
then baby drove us all(10 people including baby squeezed in his car!!) to holland village to try the 2am dessert. unfortunately it didn't have space for all 10 of us, so we headed to haagen daz instead.
after which baby(who was such a darling) sent them to their various homes before we headed to 717 durians at upper serangoon!
the durians were oh-so-good i tell you! moist, creamy and sweeet! and when we ordered only one, the man selling durians said that one surely not enough. hahs! perhaps if we weren't so full already, we would have eaten more!
i'm moving back to hall next week already, time flies soo fast!!

You'll always be a part of me
I'm a part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby

high tea with mel!
Sunday, July 20, 2008

friday was a day with........ who else but mel!!! =D
it was a high tea day and we couldn't decide which high tea to head to so we went to mariott to have a look first before heading to goodwood park!
we wanted to have the durian dessert buffet at goodwood park hotel which comes only in the durian season but it starts from 6.30pm-9/10pm.. so us being terribly hungry already decided to have the high tea at marriot! =)
and since the high tea starts at 3pm and we still had some time to kill, we started camwhoring!and all we did from 3pm-5.30pm was to keep eating and talking! the spread they had was so good i tell you, the best i've came across so far for high tea(okay, i haven't tried much high tea). they had local cuisine like laksa, kueh-pie-ti, dim sum, chicken rice, satay, paus, jap food like sushi, sashimi, many many different kinds desserts, red bean soup plus some other i forgot what soups, nonya kuehs, ice-cream with many different toppings made available, breads, donuts, scones, kimchi, clams, salad bar, smoked salmon and many many more! and when one dish ran out, a different dish would come out!

service was great too! the waiters were friendly and kept coming to change our plates and utensils =)

i so so feel like going back again! ahahs!! mel!! another high tea cum gossip cum catch up session please!after our high tea we window shopped at orchard before heading to city hall where we had... manicure at marina square!! hahas, call us vainpots but we had fun!

after which we went to bugis's ah chew dessert place to have some dessert! so who says girls can't eat much! (okay, u must be thinking : "no wonder she's so fat ") =X ahhas!

mel mel mel!! lets hang out again please!! ahhas!! this time i'll remember to charge my camera first! =X oh, and i can't wait for our double date *winks* some time in the future!! hahs!! okay, i'm all excited to hanging out with u again!! =D

post birthday =)
Friday, July 18, 2008

yesterday was.... post-birthday celebration!! =)

joseph booked a table at this nice nice alfresco dining place called Al Dente Trattoria at the Esplanade =D

view was great as it overlooked the river at the esplanade, and you could see the singapore flyer too! =) didn't know there was such a nice place like this at the Esplanade!

food was not bad, though the pizza i ordered was too much that i couldnt finish =X

oh, and i had white wine too, my first time trying it =)

dessert was fabulous! what could i say! the packaging itself was sooooo nice that i couldnt bare to even touch it! ahahs!

we chatted over dinner, over wine, over dessert..

about relationships.. friendships.. our future.. our studies.. it was nice catching up =)

we talked about the issue of how some people are husband/boyfriend material, about how our families influenced our outlook on marriage and family, about hall, about how god changed our lives, about what kind of spouse we yearn to be in future.. these kept me thinking, of what i'd be like next time. would i have a happy family? would i have successful and long lasting marriage? would i have a good career? okay, maybe i'm thinking too far. i've got to concentrate on my studies first! hahas!

anyhow.. we moved on to the topic of long distance relationships. baby might be going to australia to do vet science =( and so, i asked for opinions..

it's definitely not going to be easy.. i don't know, but i'm just not confident of myself. 5 years. it's half a decade without him by my side. Those around him says let it be a test. those around me said we shouldn't waste time - it was straightforward, cruel, yet somehow realistic. what would it be like getting to see him on a frequent basis again only after 5 yrs? would we feel as if we're strangers? our habits will have changed by then, would we still be used to having each other around? i don't know, and we'll never know until the 5 years passed. by then i'll be.. 26? it's all so uncertain..

i have an answer deep down inside though, and i told joseph about it. amazingly, he read my mind even before i told him about it. he thought the same way too. it might not be the nicest thing to do, but i thought that it would be for the benefit of us both, as harsh as it may be. but i'm not brave enough to do it, so perhaps i'll not. i don't know.

we'll see how things go i guess.. but the thought that he's even going to leave brings tears to my eyes. i'm so used to him, so dependant on him, and so in love with him. even one day without him, i'm missing him already. oh well, god has plans for my life. should he be the one for me, even after 5 years of not seeing him, not contacting him, i'll somehow get to meet him, and fall for him all over again. but like what baby mentioned, it's gonna be a risk we'll have to take.

on a lighter note, joseph gave me flowers!! and he carved(yes he carved it all by himself! =) ) my name on a wooden plank that could stand on the table! thanks joseph!!! =D

and if anyone happens to have this song, send me please!!
okay, i'm practically glued to that show. it's really nice!! the plot and everything.. all i can say is that it's nice, nice, nice!!
i'm so addicted to the tv nowadays.
i sit infront of the tv from 5-11pm almost every weekday (since i've got no job and have nothing to do =S) and leave only for dinner/toilet breaks/short chats.
hopefully this will stop when school starts!
schools starting, SIGH(yes dave, i learnt this from you =X).

me : okay! 10am! deal! i'm off to change now!!

~9.40am
*ding dong*
maid opens the door and TADA!! there he was at the door with...
home made breakfast!! (when i wasn't ready yet!!!) =D

baby claims he squeezed the juice himself..
BUT.....
I FOUND THIS IN HIS CAR!!!! =( =(
after breakfast, we headed to bottle tree park for a morning stroll before we had lunch at his favourite bah chor mee stall in toa payoh! everyone(well, almost) there knows his name i tell you! even the coffee lady!! hahas! so you can see how regular a customer he is there... they should have some loyalty card and his card would be so full of chops! =X
we shared a bowl of $4 bah chor mee and the uncle clearing bowls beside us said : "wah, so tian mi mi arh.." =S
dang ran la! hahas!after which we went home(mine) to catch half a movie before he left to fetch his mum somewhere.

he then came back at 5.30pm to pick me up for dinner at his so secretive place called...when we alighted from the car.. baby gave me flowers which he so successfully hid under the back seats =) =) we dined at this restaurant/bar called Barnacles located near/in front of shangrila hotel! it's really nice! and i mean really really nice there! the ambience, food, service... i'll give them all 5 stars! =D so guys, u can try taking your partners there =Poh, and be sure to bring them there in the evening and you can both catch the sun setting! a pretty and romantic sight =)and they even had people(i think they're from the phillipines) singing table to table! and for our table, baby asked them to play/sing "love is all around" !! =)the seafood platter we had! i simply love the lobsters, they were so fantastic i tell you, sweet and succulent- the way i like it! =D
baby made tiramisu for me, and surprisingly(opps! =X) it was so good!! even he was surprised too, hahhas! my baby's a baker in making!

and i so love the dress!!! baby bought it for me =) =)

thank you baby!! for the wonderful birthday =)

my actual birthday was spent with my dear dear family! and daddy was so sweet you buy me flowers!! thank you daddy!!! nothing beats a meal of nice food with my whole family. =) =)

to those who msged/facebook-ed/called/msned......... thank you for remembering my birthday! i heart you all! =D

if there's one thing i could thank god for, it'll be of the people he so carefully selected to surround and be part of my life. my family, friends, loved ones.... i'm so thankful to have all of you in my life, to have known you, to have spoken to you, to have met you, to have shared my joys and sorrows with you.. thank you friends, for being my friends. thank you daddy, mummy, kor, for being my family and showering me with your constant flow of love. thank you carmen, for always being there for me, for being my best best best cousin that seriously, sometimes i won't know what to do without you =) so carmen, you play a really really important role in my life!! to the cousins, thank you for the fun you've brought and it's something i really thank god for cuz i'll never find some one else who has such such great/close/fun cousins like me =) finally.... to baby, thank you for all that you've done.. i can never say enough thank yous to you for all that you've selflessly gave and yep, you're so dear and precious to me that i can't do without =) (okay, sorry baby, though i've got so much more to say, i think i should stop here or everyone will start puking, hahas!)

anyhow... like how everyone said to me in the birthday greetings i've received.. i've hit my big 2. and so it's time to be more mature and think about what the future lies ahead. guess i'll ponder about it sometime and make a list of what i want to achieve in life, maybe it would get me going and not leave me in a state of whatever-comes-will-come kind of mindset.

okay! so birthday's over and life... goes... on!

taiwan!!
Thursday, July 10, 2008

alert!! this is going to be a really long post with loads and loads of pictures =X

DAY 1

while waiting for the bullet train to send us to taipei, we headed to this cafe to eat and they had this object(i don't know what else to name it - refer to the picture below) that was so cute! it lights up and vibrates at the same time indicating that food is ready to be collected at the counter!

on the coach from the taipei mrt to our hotel, there was this housefly hovering around in the bus
carmen : "the housefly from taiwan looks different!"
me : laughs non-stop! hahas!
does it look any different!?!?!

i told baby about what carmen said and when he saw this photo(below)..
baby : "ya! the housefly looks different!"
he said i look like a housefly!!! =( =(
after dropping our luggage at the hotel, we headed to fisherman's wharf (i think it's spelt like that)
the toilet signs were so cute that i couldn't help taking pictures of it!
*the blue sign indictaing the male toilets on the right reads "gentle" =S
we tried taking like a thousand pictures of ourselves in the air but failed, so we gave up in the end =S
after which we headed to dan shui lao jie and that's where our feasting began.. we practically ate non-stop i tell you. it's simply mai dong xi, chi dong xi, mai dong xi, chi dong xi =S
rice cake - it tastes exactly like glutinous rice. nice!fish ball soup - didn't much suit my taste. it's harder and less chewly than the ones from Singapore but there're meat fillings insidei forgot what it's called but this was carmen's favourite! beancurd skin on the ourside, tanghoon on the inside. nicest among the 3!my first bubble tea!! it was so value for money i tell you, the pearls filled almost half the cup and every sip i took had so many pearls in my mouth!
and this reminds me..
when baby just got back from taiwan(he went there for some army training), i asked him if he got bubble tea back for me and he said he fedex-ed it over. so when we went out.. he brought bubble tea for me! and es, the pearls filled about half the cup BUT the cup was labelled "sweet talk"
me : you bluffed me! it's from sweet talk!
baby : no.. it's from taiwan! singapore where got give so many pearls one..
me : but sweet talk's from singapore!
baby : you try first then see lars..
so there i was drinking the milk tea..
baby : taste different right??
me : no wad..
baby : got.. you try again.. the pearls are more chewy..
so i drank again..
me : *a little skeptical* ya.. a bit different lehs..
!!!!!!!!! i nearly believed him can!!
baby, i thought we never lied to each other =(

i didn't buy this(was too full) but found it so interesting! the ice-cream was so long and sharp and it was only selling for 10NT = 45 cents!!
berries covered in... PIGS BLOOD!?!?
though it looked pretty appealing, i didn't dare to try them =X
they sell so many of these there. don't know what exactly they are but i think they're some kind of eggs. jane bought it for us months back when she went to taiwan =)*translated* smelly tou fu
actually i don't find them very smelly and they tasted okay. think the hong kong ones are nicer though =X
after which we headed to where else but........ SHILIN YE SHI!! yes. food, food and more food!!okay, the uploading of photos takes like forever so i decided to combine them from now =X
stawberry ice - it was really good!! especially after walking for so long in the hot hot environment.. we finished every bit of it! compared to the ones u can find in singapore, they had more fruits and were bigger in portion.
we had (from the top left going clockwise) :
tian bu la - made up of tou fu, meatball and many other floury stuffs covered with sauce that's a little sweet
mee sua - the soup was thick and a little salty but nice!
oh-ah-jian ( oyster omelette ) - they put more starch then the ones from singapore but the sauce they used were delicious!
i forgot what it's called - some soup that my dad said tasted like bak kut teh
after the eating, eating and more eating, we took the mrt back to our hotel.
for single trips, unlike singapore which uses a refundable card, they use blue chips. for entry, you scan the chip(like that of our ezlink card). for exit, we return(drop) the chip back.
so cute! they use a bitten apple for the no eating and drinking sign!
seats that should be let to the elderly/disabled/ pregnant woman are called priority seats.

DAY 2
okay, after the first day, i forgot where we went each day and started taking lesser pictures so yep, the rest are summaries.

we went to this place at some mountain (taiwan's FULL of mountains) that looks something like a ye shi as well
went for lunch at some restaurant which had apparrently appeared in the jacky wu's "shi zi lu kou" show. i regret not buying the clogs =( =( they were so comfortable! ken has one and he (claims) he's been wearing them for a long time.. =(there's this pretty shop selling cute chocolates! was so tempted to buy but they're a little waste of money. they even had marshmellows shaped into sanitary pads(look below)!!daddy keeps looking for cafes everywhere we go. so here we are at this cosy coffee house for a sip and rest.dinner was what u call the recycling of soup
1 : meat, vegetables, mushrooms blah blah blah were placed in a huge bowl of soup, eaten in steamboat style.
2 : waiter gives out all the food leaving the soup behind and adds in udon noodles and yam
3 : waiter gives out noodles with a spoonful or two scoops of soup, leaving some soup behind, he adds in rice and squashes the yam to give you - yam porridge in left over soup
we had a fruit store near our hotel so when we had time at night, off we headed there!
the watermelons we humongous!!! daddy tried to carry one and could barely lift it(even when he (self-proclaims) has mascular arms from all the weight lifting during gym workouts - yes, my parents are members of fitness first and they excercise more than me =X)oh, and in case i forget to mention... they have these basketball arcade games EVERYWHERE! even at the mouth of temples!! and they're cheaper then the ones in singapore - 10NT = 45 cents per game.we went to this flower park on one of the days. it was so beautiful!! many ou xiang ju's were taken there!

how i wish i could be like daddy and mummy(refer below) next time too! looking at the picture gives me a very heartwarming feeling =) wo xi huan =)

oh, and note the umbrella daddy's holding. so pretty right it's polka dotted and has pretty frills at the borders!! we got two of those for 300 NT = $13.50 and i saw them retailing at more than $15 EACH in singapore!this was at some.. park i think. we were there to look at some eroded rocks/stones =Swe went to the theme park too!
cuz time was limited and it was raining on and off, carmen and i didn't get to sit much rides =(

on the last night, daddy, mummy and i went coffee house hunting again. and to our surprise, we mamnaged to find this posh cosy restaurant somewhere behind our hotel, yays! so there we were, have beer(daddy) , lavenda milk tea(mummy), haagen daz ice-cream(me) ! =)
i so wanna head to taiwan again!! some time soon i hope =X unfortunately didn't get to shop much =(
overall taiwan was a great experience! just some things i took note in taiwan :
- the roads are bumpy. and i mean really bumpy. the tour guide claims that the government tou gong jian liao, so the roads are pretty uneven.
- traffic's a little haphazard. especially in kaohsiung, don't depend on the traffic lights
- many there don't even know a single bit of english, so your chinese has to be proficient
- shoes and clothes in the night markets(ye shi) are really cheap! shoes/clothes/bags usually cost about $9-14 sing dollars. i saw clothes there which cost $13 in taiwan selling for $26 in singapore online shops!
- the driver seats are on the left instead of right
- there're sexily clad girls in small shops selling beetle-nut. from what the tourguide says, they wear more nowadays, but still, if you're lucky, you may see some in bikinis

okay! that's about all on my taiwan trip! i like taiwan!!! =D
oh, and i think my photoshopping skills improved!! hahas!
rattles on..
